The most important artform is a beautiful house.
Philosophy
We start by immersion in the spirit of the site - to create spaces so at one with their surroundings, it's like they've grown into place. We enrich our vision through collaboration - with the client’s style & goals, and the building’s delights & difficulties.
Juggling materials, process, function, aesthetic, and a dash of humor, we create unique spaces to perfectly suit unique clients - timeless, yet completely fresh.
"She did magic - and on that budget...."
Process - space as story
The village by the wood, a thousand years old - with one foot in the future.
A calm, clear pool on the mountaintop, reflecting a brilliant sky, mist drifting in from the waterfall. The sophisticated city Penthouse, the height of 20's Machine Age style, mixed with modernity, Mondrian & a masculine edge.
Brenda Be creates homes that tell a story. Her projects are client-centered, unified, and one-of-a-kind. They flow from a guiding concept: the interior design story, drawn from client enthusiasms, and site & building history.
Influences - the art of home
Brenda's work is as influenced by art, as it is by architecture. She often distills art directly into interior design - color inspired by Rothko, lighting à la Flavin, pattern via LeWitt. She explores world cultures, particularly Asian and Indian styles. She embraces nature - featuring pure, raw, or minimally processed materials as essential interior design ingredients. And always, she celebrates dichotomy: east/west, old/new, rough/smooth, warm/cool.
Brenda creates spaces that function beautifully, and also thrill the senses: showcasing line, form, color, texture - sometimes even sound and scent. Her projects are as individual as her clients, yet all share a defining air: space as true synthesis, as vital and whole as a sculpture or installation.
